We have grown so much! I thought it would be a great idea to repost this 💚💚💚
Hello, ladies! I know there are many reasons why you joined this group. Maybe it was out of curiosity, a way to make new friends or to find new and exciting places to go. Or perhaps you are sitting on the sidelines because you feel it just isn't right for you, or you think you are too out of shape to join. Or maybe you are like me, pretty introverted, and have a hard time meeting new people and creating small talk with strangers (I am sure those that know me might disagree with that last statement, but it's the truth).
It takes me awhile to be completely comfortable with almost everything. This group has been fantastic for me, and it has helped me step outside of my comfort zone.
If you are sitting there debating on joining us for one of our adventures, consider the following.
👉Remember that it’s fine and normal not to love it right away.
We have a ton of different adventures throughout the year. If you don't care for the one, you might fall in love with another. We do everything from beginner hikes, camping, backpacking, kayaking, rappelling, and more!
And you don't have to try them all. Rappelling is not for me, no way, no how!!!
👉Remember that no one’s paying attention to you.
Don't worry about making a mistake. We all do! For instance, just yesterday, I had to use the bathroom on the trail, and I'm not talking about #1! TMI? Yep! But I want you to realize that it doesn't matter. And in addition to that, I fell, and I mean hard! Guess what? It was okay, and so was I. My trail mates were super patient and understanding. And during my most difficult times, they cheered me on and gave me suggestions to help with fatigue and muscle aches. This crew is beyond amazing, and I'll say that time and time again. You will not be judged. We are here to help and encourage you along your journey.
👉Go in with the right mind-set.
Be optimistic; it goes a long way! I could have pouted my way through the overgrown, water-soaked sections (okay, I might have griped a little, lol) but knowing I was plenty capable of pushing through gave me hope. And my trail mates gave me the courage to keep putting one foot in front of the other. During the final days before the trip, I was afraid I would fail, my anxiety peaked, and I almost backed out. But I knew I couldn't. I am 41 and determined to live my best life, and my wild and free soul said, "Not today, Shannon, not today!"
👉Prepare before you start.
Know what the heck is going on :) Throughout the years, both professionally and in my personal life, I have come to realize that no matter how hard you try to inform others of important information, they don't read :) Dive in! Enjoy the info and educate yourself on the adventure. Don't be afraid to ask questions. THERE ARE NO STUPID QUESTIONS.
👉You don't have to be in great shape for an adventure (Of course, with any exercise program, it is best to consult your physician first).
I am currently 72 lbs overweight, and I just hiked the first half of a reasonably tricky trail here in Oklahoma. I was also carrying my pack that weighed an easy 35lbs. I am still very sore, but I feel so accomplished and more substantial than I was a day ago. Minus the Diet Dr. Pepper, I have found that the more active I am, the more I want to fuel my body with proper nutrients. It is a daily challenge, but small changes can lead to tremendous results.
🗣So with that said, ladies! What is next for you?
Are you ready to start a new journey?
